This is the birthplace of Fernando de León y Castillo (1842–1918), politician and diplomat, and of his brother Juan (1834–1912), the engineer who built the Puerto de la Luz. The Cabildo bought it in 1952 and opened it as a museum in 1954.

Its eight permanent rooms bring together documents, photographs and plans of the port, as well as painting and sculpture from the 16th to the 20th century.
