Transfers from Gran Canaria Airport to places of interest in Las Palmas

If you land at Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) and are heading straight to a concert, a match, a trade fair, a cruise or a particular part of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, here you'll find each destination with its address, the distance by road and what's worth knowing about arriving there. I'm Raquel, a taxi driver with licence LM-564: message me with the place and the time and I'll confirm availability.

Las Canteras and Santa Catalina

Las Canteras and Santa Catalina

Las Palmas cruise terminal

Muelle de Santa Catalina, s/n, 35008 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria cruise terminal is on the Santa Catalina quay, next to the El Muelle shopping centre and a few minutes' walk from Santa Catalina park. It is the embarkation and disembarkation point for cruise ships that are based in the city or call here. Many passengers land at the airport on the day they board or the day before, with several suitcases and a deadline for getting on the ship. The journey links the two ends of the capital along the GC-1 and the Avenida Marítima.

Arriving from the airport

The Santa Catalina quay is a port area: on days with several ships it fills up with coaches and taxis. Tell me the name of the ship and the boarding deadline and I'll drop you at the terminal access area. Estimate from the airport: around €40 by official taximeter.

Las Canteras beach, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Las Canteras and Santa Catalina

Las Canteras beach

Las Canteras is the great city beach of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: more than three kilometres of sand with a seafront promenade lined with café terraces, hotels and apartments, from La Puntilla in the north to the area around the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in the south. It is the most common destination for anyone landing to spend a few days in the capital. Because the promenade is long, staying at one end is not the same as staying at the other: the exact arrival point changes the street the taxi comes in by and the journey time.

Arriving from the airport

The promenade is pedestrian-only along its entire length: the taxi drops you in the side street closest to your accommodation. Tell me the address or the building number and I'll tell you the exact corner.

Las Canteras and Santa Catalina

Santa Catalina park

Santa Catalina park is the best-known square in the Port area, halfway between Las Canteras beach and the cruise quay. Here you will find the Elder Museum of Science and Technology, the Santa Catalina bus station and the main stage of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival. Hotels, apartments and offices are clustered around it, so it works as an easy meeting point for anyone arriving from the airport who doesn't yet know the city. Las Canteras is a few minutes' walk away.

Arriving from the airport

The inside of the park is pedestrian-only. The taxi stops in the streets around it, on the port side or the beach side, depending on where you're going: we'll agree it when you book.

El Muelle shopping centre

Muelle de Santa Catalina, s/n, 35008 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

It has shops, places to eat and terraces overlooking the port. For anyone arriving from the airport it is above all a landmark: a clear place to meet when your accommodation is on a pedestrian street in the area, or somewhere to pass the time with your suitcases before boarding a cruise or getting into your apartment.

Arriving from the airport

The official address is Muelle de Santa Catalina, s/n. It shares its access roads with the cruise terminal, so there is more traffic on days with ships in port; we'll agree the stopping point on WhatsApp.

Guanarteme and El Rincón

Alfredo Kraus Auditorium

Avenida Príncipe de Asturias, s/n, 35010 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium rises above the sea at the southern end of Las Canteras beach, next to the Plaza de la Música and the Las Arenas shopping centre. It is the city's main concert hall and forms a single complex with the Palacio de Congresos de Canarias, so concerts and festivals are held here as well as conferences and conventions. People flying in for an event are often short of time: it helps to know that it is at the opposite end of the city from the airport.

Arriving from the airport

The official address is Avenida Príncipe de Asturias, s/n. It is one of the destinations in the capital furthest from LPA: you have to drive the whole length of the Avenida Marítima and cross over towards Guanarteme. Tell me the start time of the concert or conference so I can plan the pick-up with time to spare.

It is one of the capital's large shopping centres, with a hypermarket, fashion and places to eat, and serves as a landmark for the whole Guanarteme and El Rincón area. If you are staying in an apartment at the southern end of the beach, it is a convenient stopping point for the taxi, with wide access roads for unloading luggage without entering narrow streets.

Arriving from the airport

It is at the end of the city furthest from the airport, like the auditorium. Tell me whether you're going to the shopping centre or to accommodation nearby and I'll adjust the drop-off point.

Mesa y López and Alcaravaneras

Mesa y López and Alcaravaneras

Mesa y López

Avenida José Mesa y López is the main shopping street of the Port area: a tree-lined avenue with department stores, shops, offices and banks, between Las Alcaravaneras beach and Las Canteras beach. It is a business district during the week and a shopping district at any time, with several city hotels in the nearby streets and the Mercado Central a stone's throw away. People arriving from the airport on business often have their meeting, office or hotel here, a few minutes from the Avenida Marítima.

Arriving from the airport

The avenue is long and the side streets are one-way: tell me the street number or the name of the building and I'll drop you at the nearest point where the car can stop.

It is home to the opera season and stages theatre, dance and concerts. Nearby are the Vegueta market, Calle Mayor de Triana and the museums of the old town.

San Telmo, Triana and Vegueta

San Telmo park and bus station

It is a common arrival point for anyone continuing their journey by bus, staying in Triana or meeting someone in the centre. The park still has its Modernist kiosk and the San Telmo chapel, and the pedestrian shopping area starts here.

Arriving from the airport

San Telmo is next to the Avenida Marítima and is one of the first exits as you enter the city from the airport. There is a lot of bus movement around the station: we'll agree a specific stopping point, on the park side or the station side, depending on where you're going next.

Siete Palmas

Gran Canaria Stadium

Calle Fondos de Segura, s/n, 35019 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The Gran Canaria Stadium (Estadio de Gran Canaria) is the home ground of UD Las Palmas and is in Siete Palmas, in the upper part of the capital, next to the Gran Canaria Arena and the Siete Palmas shopping centre. As well as football it hosts major concerts. From the airport there is no need to go down into the centre: you get there via the ring road, which avoids the Avenida Marítima. On match days traffic around the stadium multiplies and some streets are closed, so it is best to settle the drop-off point in advance.

Arriving from the airport

The stadium is on Calle Fondos de Segura. On match or concert days it isn't always possible to stop by the gates: tell me your gate or stand and I'll drop you at the nearest accessible point, with time to get in without rushing.

Siete Palmas

Gran Canaria Arena

Calle Fondos de Segura, s/n, 35019 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The Gran Canaria Arena is the indoor arena in Siete Palmas, home of Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria and a regular venue for concerts, shows and sporting events. It stands beside the Gran Canaria Stadium, in the upper part of the city, with wide avenues and access from the ring road. For anyone coming from elsewhere for a concert or a basketball game, arriving by taxi from the airport avoids looking for parking in an area that fills up on event days, especially if there is a match at the stadium at the same time.

Arriving from the airport

The arena is on Calle Fondos de Segura, next to the stadium. Tell me when the doors open and, if you know it, your entrance gate: I'll drop you at the nearest stopping point that is open to traffic that day.

Arriving from the airport

It has wide vehicle access. On match or concert days at the stadium or the Arena the area gets heavy with traffic: if that coincides with your arrival, let me know and we'll adjust the time.

It is on Avenida de la Feria, in the upper part of the city, with access from the ring road. Exhibitors and visitors tend to arrive with equipment, suitcases or samples, and with set-up or accreditation times that leave no room for delays. That is why it helps to know exactly which hall or entrance you are heading for before leaving the airport.

Arriving from the airport

The official address is Avenida de la Feria, 1. The site has several entrances and each event uses its own: confirm the venue and the gate with the organiser, and tell me when you book so I can drop you as close as possible.

It is an open-air shopping centre, with outdoor streets, large stores, places to eat and cinemas, which draws visitors from all over the island. It is a long way from the beach hotel area, so it is not a typical tourist destination: people coming from the airport are usually heading to a relative's home or to accommodation in the Tamaraceite area, and use the centre as a meeting point.

Arriving from the airport

You get there via the ring road, without going down into the city centre. The site is large: tell me which entrance or which shop we're meeting by so I can drop you at the right spot.
